This is a fan made case for the tabletop game Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective.
On January 7th, 1886, The Irish Home Rule Bill has been passed. On that night, some people are unhappy with the results and are more than willing to show them why passionately. Now, Sherlock Holmes, John H. Watson, and you are wrapped up in a mystery to figure out who murdered one of the politicians responsible for the bill.
Below are images of the planning process that I help organized. Please proceed with caution, for they contain spoilers!
The most important thing for this case was the story, obviously. With my group, I told them that we should start off by creating the ending first. By doing that, we were able to have a starting point to connect all of the gameplay elements with.
In this case, we wanted a story about a wife murdering someone to protect her husband. From there, we came up with numerous elements to lead up to the ending. What weapon would she use? Where would it have come from? And what false leads can we implement?
Once we thought up every element for the game, it was a matter of making sure the players can actually solve it. I made sure each clue told just enough information to the player without giving much away.
Playtesters noted that the case was a good challenge, even if it got frustrating at times. They were able to solve the case within an hour and felt smart for doing so.
